If you have been considering installing an aftermarket custom hood on your ride, you have a couple different options. As a matter of fact, both are more lightweight than the metals used in your stock hood while keeping the same structural integrity of the vehicle. This is important as your custom car will travel faster, the lighter it is in weight.
The next item you must determine when choosing custom hoods is whether you are interested in the stock look, or the custom look of custom vented style hoods or Carbon Fiber. Both fiberglass hoods and Carbon Fiber Hoods are available in standard styles that match the look and design as the original hood or vented styles that contain air vents to allow air to flow into the engine compartment. This is beneficial as it will help the engine temperature to stay cool under heavy operation. The downside is that it allows dust and debris to enter the engine compartment. On top of addition air flow, Carbon Fiber Hoods help absorb excess heat produced by engine use.
A fiberglass hood will need to be painted after purchase. They generally do not come with paint unless specifically noted when purchased. A Custom Carbon Fiber hood does not require painting as they come with the unique Carbon Fiber wrap look right from the manufacturer. They also are clear coated for UV protection and shine. Carbon Fiber hoods are made with thin sheets of carbon Fiber which are layered, custom wrapped, and then vacuumed sealed onto the hoods.
