When purchasing carbon fiber hoods, one of the questions to ask yourself is whether you would like Standard Carbon Fiber Hood or one that is Vented. So what's the difference. A Carbon Fiber Hood generally has some form of air duct or hood scoop built into the hood. These hoods can be easily spotted because they will have a opening in the hood that will generally be covered by a screen.
This opening allows airflow through. Air flowing through the screens and into the engine compartment helps keep the engine cool during prolonged use and racing. Sometimes these vents are inside a hoods scoop allowing additional airflow into the engine as in a "Ram Air" set up. The down side of having these hoods is that engine compartment is more susceptible to dust, dirt, grime, and rain water. If you have a Ram Air through the hood scoop, you will need to clean your air cleaner more frequently then those with standard Setups.
Sometimes hoods with vents are not functional meaning that they are closed off. The vents do not allow airflow through the hoods, they are simply for looks. Cowled or Scooped Hoods often times look more sporty than those without. If you are not into the vent idea, a standard Carbon Fiber Hood will be right for you. These hoods match the exact look of you stock hood and will not have hood scoops or vents built in. It will be one solid unit. These hoods keep the engine compartment cleaner, are easier to maintain, and also do not stick out as much for a more "sleeper" look.
Whether you go with standard style hoods or carbon fiber hoods with Vents and hood scoops, both hoods will make your vehicle look better, feel better, and run stronger. When it comes to purchasing an aftermarket hood, Carbon Fiber is the way to go.
